What does the rate mean?

I genuinely believe that the acceptance rate is just one piece of the puzzle. It measures the selectivity of a school by dividing the number of admitted students by the total number of applicants. A lower percentage indicates a more selective institution, but it doesn't necessarily mean the education is "better"—it just means more people applied relative to the seats available.

Yield Rate vs Acceptance Rate:

Acceptance Rate: The percentage of applicants who are invited to attend.
Yield Rate: The percentage of *accepted* students who actually choose to enroll. Highly prestigious schools often have high yield rates (over 80%).

Selectivity Categories:

Under 10%: Highly Selective (e.g., Ivy League, Stanford, MIT).
10% - 30%: Selective (e.g., Tier 1 public universities).
30% - 60%: Competitive.
Over 60%: Less Selective / Open Enrollment.
