AHA PREVENT™ Risk Calculator

The new standard in heart risk assessment. PREVENT includes kidney function and metabolic health to provide a more holistic 10-year risk profile.

What is PREVENT?

I genuinely believe that the AHA PREVENT (Predicting Risk of cardiovascular disease EVENTs) equations are a major leap forward. Unlike the older Pooled Cohort Equations (ASCVD), PREVENT recognizes that heart health is deeply linked to your kidneys and metabolic system.

Key Changes:

  • eGFR: Kidney function is now a core predictor. Declining kidney health is a major risk factor for heart events.
  • BMI: Obesity and metabolic health are integrated into the primary model.
  • No Race Variable: PREVENT removes race from the equation, focusing on clinical data and social determinants instead.

This score represents your estimated risk of a "Total CVD" event—including heart attack, stroke, and heart failure—over the next decade. Always discuss these results with your doctor to determine if statins or other interventions are right for you.
