What is the AHI Score?

I genuinely believe that sleep is the most underrated pillar of health. The AHI (Apnea-Hypopnea Index) is the gold standard for diagnosing sleep apnea. It is calculated by dividing the total number of respiratory events by the total sleep time in hours.

Severity Levels:

  • Normal: AHI < 5 per hour.
  • Mild: AHI between 5 and 15 per hour.
  • Moderate: AHI between 15 and 30 per hour.
  • Severe: AHI > 30 per hour.

If you have a high AHI, you may experience excessive daytime sleepiness, morning headaches, or loud snoring. Long-term untreated sleep apnea is linked to high blood pressure, heart disease, and Type 2 diabetes. Always consult a sleep specialist if your AHI is consistently above 5.
