Child Height Predictor
Will they be tall? Estimate your child's adult height based on the "Mid-Parental" formula used by pediatricians worldwide.
Range: 5' 9" – 6' 1" (+/- 2 inches)
How accurate is this?
I genuinely believe that genetics is the main driver, but not the only one. The Mid-Parental Height (or Tanner Formula) is remarkably accurate for about 90% of the population. It assumes that a child will likely land somewhere in the middle of their parents' heights, adjusted for their own gender.
Nutrition & Environment: While your DNA sets the "ceiling" for how tall you can be, nutrition and sleep determine if you actually reach that ceiling. Children today are often taller than their parents because of better access to high-quality protein and healthcare.
The Formula:
- Boys: ((Father's Height + Mother's Height) + 5 inches) / 2
- Girls: ((Father's Height + Mother's Height) - 5 inches) / 2
- Margin of Error: Most children land within 2 inches (5cm) of this prediction.
