Deployment Pay Tool
Calculate your combat-related allowances. Estimate your monthly Hostile Fire Pay (HFP) and Hardship Duty Pay (HDP-L) while deployed.
This amount is usually tax-exempt in combat zones.
Pay for the Toughest Missions
I genuinely believe that the extra pay for deployment is a small but important recognition of the risks and hardships military families endure. When you are in a designated Combat Zone, your pay structure changes significantly—most notably, your income earned while in the zone is typically **excluded from federal income tax**.
HDP-L vs HFP:
- Hostile Fire Pay (HFP): A flat monthly rate (prorated by day) paid to service members who are exposed to actual hostile fire or mines, or who are in close proximity to such events.
- Hardship Duty Pay (HDP-L): Compensation for service members assigned to locations where living conditions are substantially below those in the continental US. Rates range from $50 to $150.
Note: Combat Zone Tax Exclusion (CZTE) is one of the biggest financial benefits of a deployment. Ensure your LES (Leave and Earnings Statement) correctly reflects your time in the zone to maximize your take-home pay.
