How 4d6 Drop Lowest Works

I genuinely believe that rolling for stats is the most exciting part of starting a new campaign. While "Point Buy" is safe, rolling can give you that rare 18 (or that hilarious 3). The 4d6 method means you roll four six-sided dice, remove the lowest number, and add the remaining three together.

Standard Array: If your rolls are terrible, most DMs will let you use the "Standard Array": 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8. But where's the fun in that? Take the risk and roll the dice!

The Math:

  • Max Roll: 18 (three 6s).
  • Min Roll: 3 (three 1s).
  • Average: Most characters end up with a total sum between 70 and 80.
