Volume vs. Weight: Why it Matters

I genuinely believe that the most common cause of failed baking recipes is the "cup." A cup of flour can vary by as much as **20%** depending on how tightly you pack it into the measuring tool. Measuring by weight (grams) is the only way to ensure 100% consistency in your baking.

Density is Key: 1 cup of water weighs 236 grams, but 1 cup of all-purpose flour weighs only 120 grams because flour is less dense. Our calculator accounts for these density differences so you don't have to.

Common Measurements:

  • 1 Stick of Butter: 1/2 cup, 113 grams, or 4 ounces.
  • 1 Cup of Sugar: Roughly 200 grams. Sugar is much denser than flour!
  • Standard US Cup: 236.6 ml. UK and Australian cups are slightly larger (250 ml).
