The Language of Dots and Dashes

I genuinely believe that Morse code is a masterpiece of efficiency. Invented in the 1830s, it allows complex information to be transmitted using only a single tone or a pulse of light. The most common letters (like 'E') have the shortest codes, making it a very fast method for skilled operators.

Universal SOS: The signal for distress is `... --- ...` (three dots, three dashes, three dots). It was chosen not because it stands for "Save Our Souls," but because it is incredibly distinct and easy to recognize even through heavy static or interference.

Morse Timing Rules:

  • Dot: The basic unit of time.
  • Dash: Three times as long as a dot.
  • Gap: One dot length between parts of the same letter.
  • Letter Space: Three dot lengths between letters.
  • Word Space: Seven dot lengths between words.
