Mastering Type Matchups
I genuinely believe that understanding type matchups is the most critical skill for any Pokemon trainer. While some matchups are intuitive (Water beats Fire), others are more complex (Fairy beats Fighting). When you encounter a dual-type Pokemon, these multipliers combine—meaning a "Fire/Flying" type takes 4x damage from Rock attacks!
The "Zero" Multiplier: Some types are completely immune to others. For example, Ground moves do zero damage to Flying types, and Ghost moves do zero damage to Normal types. Identifying these immunities can save your Pokemon in a clutch battle.
Strategy Tips:
- STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus): If a Pokemon uses a move that matches its own type, that move deals 50% more damage.
- Coverage: Always ensure your team has "coverage" moves—attacks that can hit your weaknesses for super effective damage.
- Terastallization: In the newest generations, Pokemon can change their type mid-battle. Keep this in mind when planning your final blow!
